I would like to express my deepest appreciation to Julian Rodriguez,Jr. (Pala/Kupa, who's personal financial support eased tremendously the hardships of us all), Mike Shortey (Dine), Carl BadBear Sampson (Paiute/WesternShoshone), & Roy Murphy (Muckleshoot/Seabird) who, as Veteran Longest Walkers, knew the Spiritual obligation to Dennis & the LW5 Walk to cover these miles "...on foot". These Warriors stepped up on short & sudden notice despite obligations to their families, their clans, their Nations  and their loved ones. They suffered much~pains&strains & sweat&sprains, irregular&infrequent showers sometimes wearing the same dirty clothes after getting a shower~  much discomfort generally (probably much similar to the 1978 Walk, I imagine) to cover sometimes more than 20 miles per day each to make this happen. I also want to express my appreciation to The Leonard Peltier Committee members for their support & appreciation to Dennis Banks by allowing us to speak at their anniversary event for Leonard Peltier & to the March for Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women in Rapid City for their embodiment of the ideals the American Indian Movement has always stood for & the good medicine they brought to our Walk. I am absolutely certain that, without the efforts & sacrifices of all of the above to do this Walk in a good way, "The Long Walk to Leech Lake for Nawacomig" could never have arrived in time to join the "Run Around Leech Lake" sponsored by the Banks family & the Tribe to honor Dennis Banks & his life of service to improve the conditions for existence of all Indian Peoples. The debt of gratitude due to them for having helped to heal & complete this Circle cannot be articulated in words so I will only say:

June27, 2018~ The following day we participated in an event for Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women, Children & Men organized by Sage Trudell (John Trudell's daughter). This included many people speaking of their currently disappeared loved ones & the anguish of not knowing where they are or what may have happened to them. Following the speaking of many, the entire group walked through Rapid City led by Traditional Drum & Singers & Eagle Staffs carried led by Delbert High Hawk to Art Alley where a mural had been painted on a wall which all were invited to put up a name of any victimized loved one & to which I added Rose Downwind. Following this event we all loaded up & headed north to complete our Long Walk Home to Leech Lake for Nawacomig.

June 26, 2018~ We all enjoyed our short break

continuing our prayer for Nawacomig by

supporting the things he & his life stood for:

especially the prayer for Leonard Peltier to be

freed prom his wrongful imprisonment in

maximum security prison. Events we attended

included a Prayer Run from the school @ Pine

Ridge to the Jumping Bull Ranch with Mike

Shortey, Bad Bear Sampson & Roy Murphy

participating as runners.. Events continued @

the Jumping Bull Ranch (the site of the famous

72 day confrontation with the FBI). Many words

were spoken on the necessity for justice by

Cooney Dog, Jean Roach & many others. Our

Long Walk to Leech Lake team was asked to say

a few words about what we were doing in

Honor of NawaComig & his lifetime of

accomplishments, including the

50thAnniversary of A.I.M. ,& the 40th

Anniversary of the Longest Walks & Runs. I

spoke of the meaning of Longest

Walks~Honoring with Prayer the Ancestors who

perished & suffered in those forced marches

that we might live & praying for the land & all of

our relatives.who are suffering & perishing from

the horribly destructive forces of Colonialism

. Everyone had a turn @ the  mic to introduce

themselves & say a few words except Bad Bear,

who was busy smudging the arbor, of course.....

We made it into N.D.from Montana yesterday

morning and are today in Williston,N.D. Carl

Bad Bear Sampson caught up with us  after

Miles City and has been keeping the

smudgepot going and covering miles, a great

addition to the team. Yesterday both he &

Mike Shortey made 19 miles each while I

lamed out @ 13- sore ankle firm Sketchers

w/too soft Cloudfoam support.  Got some Dr.

Scholls inserts & it is helping enough that I'm

in training running. Stopped by Turtle Mt.

(Leonard Peltiers Tribe) Casino near Trenton

to see about  camping/showers. The Missouri

River is high from winter runoff &

rain~campgrounds flooded. So stopped by for

some free plays & when they found out what

we are doing, we had Chicken, Mashed

potatoes w/gravy & Chili on the house..

Security guard Clayton Williams took us all

over to his place to get showers when he got

 off work.

We are on break from the Walk for a few days, getting much needed rest for sore muscles(BadBear), blistered toes(MikeShortyr), strained ankles(me) & tiredness generally. Julian was so inspired by us all getting our miles in,.he walked couple times ystrdy even tho he shouldn't have (he needs new brace). He is now looking for a Hot Spring for all of us to soak.
